Call me old fashioned, but I prefer a cold steel body trap.

Only problem with body traps is that they'll catch whatever walks in.
Next-door neighbor got TEN raccoons, and this is a fairly intensely-developed area.
IOW, the beaver could be #2 critter and evade capture for a long time.
The .22LR is far more selective.
