The unasked Barrett question
What was Trolley Tommy doing driving to the State Fair when there was cheap and convenient mass transit available to him?

Short version - money. Depending on the ages of the minors, it would have cost between $14 and $20 in fares. Somehow, I doubt that the cost of the gas would have been anywhere between $14 and $20.
A second item to consider - parking on the Fairgrounds is $10.
That $20 is a very small price to avoid the carbon emissions of Barrett's motor vehicle.
